Longhorn

Lightweight, distributed block storage for Kubernetes, designed to be simple to deploy and operate compared to heavier storage systems.

Overview

Longhorn provides persistent block storage volumes for Kubernetes workloads with built-in snapshotting, backup, and disaster recovery, aiming for a much simpler operational footprint than Ceph while still being distributed and highly available. It's a CNCF graduated project popular in edge and homelab Kubernetes deployments as well as production clusters.

Longhorn is a fit for teams that want distributed block storage for Kubernetes without Ceph's operational complexity, a lighter-weight alternative to Rook and Ceph already in this catalog for teams that don't need Ceph's full feature set.
